African Women Champs: Nigeria crushes South Africa 2-1

Nigeria defeated hosts South Africa 2-1 at the Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton, South Africa on Thursday to secure a semi-final spot in the ongoing African Women Championships.

Two goals from top striker Perpetua Nkwocha ensured that the Super Falcons are on course for a sixth African title.

A lot had been said before the game with the Banyana Banyana hoping to get a famous win in front of their home crowd.

It was the Nigerians who ran away winners with leading scorer Nkwocha adding to her opening day hat-trick against Mali to bring her total goals to five. South Africa’s Janine Van Wyk scored for the hosts with a stunning free kick in the first half.

Nigeria will next play Tanzania while South Africa will hope to secure a victory over Mali in order to win a semi-final slot.
