Alamieyeseigha-President Condoles Family As Bayelsa Declares One Week Of Mourning-President Muhammed Buhari has described the death of former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, as a huge loss to the state and the Ijaw people as a whole.

In a condolence message sent to the family, the president urged the Ijaw nation to take heart over the loss of one of their notable indigenes, describing the departed former governor as a well love Ijaw man.

The president contained: “Former governor Alamieyeseigha was well-loved by his people. This love was expressed in the way they supported him through his time in public office, and also, in the way they stood by him after he left office, in good and bad times.”

The President condoled with the immediate family of the late governor, asking them to take the loss as God’s own will.

Towards the celebration of an eventful life, the state government has declared one week of mourning in his honour who died on Saturday October 10, 2015.
Patience Jonathan, in her condolence message described Alams as close a very dear fellow calling him ‘daddy’ in her tribute.

The Bayelsa state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Esueme Dan-Kikile, issued a statement saying that the mourning period for the departed had already commenced on Monday.

In celebration of his life, all flags in the state has been flying at half-mast while all official government engagements had remained cancelled.

“Government is working closely with the Alamieyeseigha family to give the former governor a befitting burial” the commissioner said.

Also, condolence registers have been opened at the governor’s office, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, secretariat complex and Ijaw House in Yenagoa.

All major events including Governor Seriake Dickson’s campaign which had been scheduled for Saturday, October 17 have been postponed in honour of the first civilian governor of the state and great son of the soil who doubled up his political commitment as  the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) state advisory campaign council.
