The Federal Government on Wednesday announced a nine-man probe panel to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the Dana plane crash .
According to the Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, the panel will be chaired by former chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Group Capt. John Obakpolor (rtd).
Other members of the panel include; Capt. Austin Omame, Capt. Dele Sasegbon, Dr. O.B. Aliu, Engr. F.C. Onyeyiri,Capt. Muhtar Usman, Dr. Tony Anuforom, Capt. A. Mshelia and Capt. Mfon Udom.
Mrs Oduah said the panel will also conduct comprehensive investigation into the operations of other domestic airlines as well as oversight role of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
She said the panel will examine the financial status of the airlines to ascertain their level of viability in terms of keeping to best maintenance practices.
Mrs Oduah said the black box of the crashed Dana plane has been recovered and would be flown to the United States of America today for analysis.
On reports of investigations into past air mishaps, the minister said reports of the Sosoliso and ADC airlines both in 2005 were ready and awaiting approval for release.
Meanwhile, the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) on Wednesday said it would ensure the payment of insurance claims to all dependents of the victims of the Dana Air plane crash in Lagos.
The Commission’s position was contained in a statement by the Head of Corporate Communications, Lucky Fiakpa, who gave the assurance that the aircraft in question was properly insured and all reinsurance contracts were duly entered into.
The statement also stated that seven local underwriters were involved in the insurance.
NAICOM consoled the families of those who lost their lives in the ill-fated flight, noting that no amount of money was sufficient to compensate them.
Dana Air’s Flight 0992 crashed into residential buildings in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos on Sunday, killing the 153 people on board.
Several others were also killed as the aircraft plunged into the two-storey building.

It sent a message to its numerous customers providing a telephone number for its to to contact either for flight rescheduling or refunds of Air fares for pre-booked journeys.
The message contained:” Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives in the Dana Air mishap of Sunday June 3, 2012.”We regret that your Dana Air flight will not operate today, as scheduled.
