The worse and most popular case of severed penis was in 1993 when American John Wayne Bobbitt and wife Lorena Bobbitt (nee Gallo) breezed into World focus as their romance relationship culminated in a bitter encounter which made wife Lorena cut off John’s penis
At some point during the night, Lorena got out of bed and went to the kitchen for a drink of water. Grabbing the knife, she entered the bedroom where John was sleeping and cut off his entire penis starting at the base.
After assaulting John, Lorena left the apartment with the severed penis, drove a short while, then rolled down the car window and threw it into a field. Realizing the severity of the incident, she stopped and called 911. After an exhaustive search, it was located, packed in ice, and taken to the hospital where John was being treated.
The penis was reattached by surgeons James T. Sehn and David Berman during a nine-and-a-half-hour operation.
Lorena was taken into custody. When she was arrested the night of June 23, she told the police, “He always have orgasm and he doesn’t wait for me to have orgasm. He’s selfish. This conversation with Detective Peter Wentz was tape-recorded and the transcript was read later in the trial by Mary Grace O’Brien, the Prince William County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney prosecuting Lorena.

Penile cut off by women is a common practice in Thailand, and it is always a traditional Thai home pride that severed penis get piled with women who plan to do it pre-planning to allow the windows open for available ventilation through which the cut-off piece is thrown out to discourage retrieval in plans for re-attachment. Areas under the houses are mostly the home of the family pigs, chickens, and ducks. Thus, it is quite usual that an amputated penis is tossed out of an open window, where it may be captured by a duck.”
At least once in ten years, the medical profession has take it upon itself to look back at Thailand’s common practice. The first record of penile cut-off assessment appeared in a 1983 issue of the American Journal of Surgery. Surgical Management of an Epidemic of Penile Amputations in Siam, by Kasian Bhanganada and four fellow physicians at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok, introduces the subject: “It became fashionable in the decade after 1970 for the humiliated Thai wife to wait until her [philandering] husband fell asleep so that she could quickly sever his penis with a kitchen knife. The report explains, for readers in other countries: “The Thai saying, ‘I better get home or the ducks will have something to eat,’ is therefore a common joke and immediately understood at all levels of society”.
The bulk of the paper reports how the doctors and their colleagues learned, over the course of attempting 18 re-implantations, how to improve the necessary surgical techniques. Unambiguous photographs supplement the text.
“Interestingly”, the physicians remark at the very end, “none of our patients filed a criminal complaint against their attackers.”
