How Mama Hannah Dideolu Awolowo Died… Her last Moments-The eldest daughter of the late matriarch of the Awolowo family,  Mrs Omotola Oyediran, has given more insights into her mum’s  last moments and how she breathed her final breath last Saturday afternoon.

According to Mrs Oyediran, Mama Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu(HID) Awolowo, on Saturday had requested for pounded yam with vegetable soup for her breakfast. Mrs Oyediran said she objected to the choice of her food made because such a diet would be too heavy for her at that time of the day.

She said she advised that Mama, 99 should have a lighter food and should not have a heavy food for her breakfast. She said the Yeye Oba of Yorubaland then was given the choice of a light food, precisely pap which was prepared instead of the Pounded yam and served her.

Shortly after she finished eating, the deceased wife of Nigeria’s most influential politician and generations of Yoruba figure father  began to hold series of meeting with family members and other relatives in respect her Centenary birthday slated for November 25.
Mrs Oyediran spoke at the Efunyela Hall at the Ikenne home of the Awolowos where some important figures of the current regime were gathered to pay their condolence.

Among those present were the Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the All Progressives Congress(APC) National leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Rauf Aregbesola(Osun), his Lagos state counterpart, Akinwunmi Ambode and Governor Abiola Ajumobi of Oyo state.

given her pounded yam to please her appetite as requested earlier. She ate the pounded yam with vegetable stew and shortly afterward   retired to her bedroom for her usual siesta.

Shortly after, the unexpected happened as someone called-in to notify some family members that Mama was having difficulty with breathing.

According to Mrs Oyediran, herself and Dr Tokunbo Awolowo   Dosunmu, with other  four of her grandchildren and a representative of the great grandchildren rallied round  Mama as she was staring round all of them in the room, still laying on her bed.

” We were all nervous as I told Tokunbo, you are a doctor, why don’t you do something?, you can’t sit watching Mama, pick your tools and begin to massage (visit our Outcall Massage London) her because we were disturbed about the breathing. But Mama  couldn’t make it.

At about 3:15pm,  She gave up the ghost on Saturday afternoon.

“We will certainly miss her”.

“We are still in shock about the death because she was full of her full energy and was very healthy, looking beautiful and bouncy.

“The beauty she exhumed made us all to joke that no wonder she was the choice that our father made marrying such a beauty living up to her much celebrated appellate of a jewel of inestimable value”, she narrated”.

“Joyfully so, mama passed away in the presence of three generations. Her life is a big challenge to us all. She kept the faith, kept the Nigerian Tribune since 27 years after the death of Papa, we are still in a state of shock.”

Lai Mohammed, Commissioner of Police in the state, Abdulmajid Ali, Chief Bisi Akande, Pa Olanihun Ajayi, Govenor Olusegun Mimiko, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senator Biyi Durojaiye, Senator Anthony Adefuye, and a delegation of the Federal Government led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation
