A Nigerian man was sentenced to three years’ jail by the High Court today after he pleaded guilty to abducting and wrongfully confining a Filipina in December last year.

Justice Datuk Wira Mohtarudin Baki ordered Oparaugo Uchenna Samuel, 27, to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on December 14 last year.

Samuel was charged with another person still at large with abducting and confining the 45-year-old woman, whom he had befriended through the Internet, at an apartment unit at Block E, Mentari Court, Jalan PJS 8/9, Taman Sri Mentari, Petaling Jaya, between 5.20pm on December 12 and 9.50am on December 17 last year.

Mohtarudin also sentenced Samuel’s Malaysian girlfriend, Nurrul Atika Baharuddin, 21, and her colleague, Khairun Azhan Mohammed Aziddin, 25, to six months’ jail each after they pleaded guilty to intentionally omitting to give information on the woman’s abduction, which they were legally bound to give.

Nurrul Atika and Khairun Azhan, who were jointly charged with committing the offence at the same place and time, were ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest on December 14 last year.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Kamal Roslan prosecuted while the three accused were represented by lawyers Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, Salim Bashir and Abu Dzarr Ab Karim.
