Uche Nwofor, brought in as a substitute on Wednesday night scored twice to give the Super Eagles a 2-0 victory over Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a friendly match tagged Nelson Mandela Challenge decided at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban.
The vv-venlo striker who came on to replace Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi in the 46th minute broke the deadlock three minutes later with a back heel tap which caught goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune helpless.
Coach Stephen Keshi had also in the 46th minute brought in Victor Moses in place of Sunday Mba while Ahmed Musa came on to replace Obinna Nsofor who staged a comeback into the national team after a long absence.
Nwofor, a former Rangers and Shooting Stars Sports Club player was on song again in the 68th minute to give the Super Eagles a comfortable lead.
The South Africans made a few scoring moves which were however, foiled by the brilliance of goalkeeper Austin Ejide who captained the side.
Brown Ideye was introduced in place of Nnamdi Oduamadi in the 77th minute.
Ahmed Musa almost increased the goal tally during the three minutes added time but his effort missed the target by an inch.
Meanwhile, Eagles coach, Keshi while reacting, said: “I’m proud of the players, we wanted to make ourselves and the nation proud and that has been achieved. This is just to keep us in shape ahead of the game against Malawi on September 7.
