Nigeria Is Faced With External Aggressions, Claims President Jonathan

Good DecisonNigeria Is faced With External Aggression, Claims President Jonathan-Nigeria Leader, President Goodluck Jonathan has claimed that the country’s recent aggressions by terrorists has be results of  internal and external conspiracy  and that his government has succeeded in bringing terrorism and territorial aggression under control, despite its threats to the nation’s survival.

The President was reacting to  a recent statement made by the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo who had accused his regime of under-performance.

President Jonathan spoke through a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday. It claimed  in part: “Our attention has been drawn to comments made by a former President of this country, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, regarding the performance of the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The president through Okupe’s statement   therefore described the former President Olusegun Obasanjo statement  as under-assessment and  untrue, describing the under performance   accusation as unfounded.

Said the president in Okupe’s statement: “No leader since the country gained independence in 1960 had done better than myself for the country”, describing  Obasanjo’s comment as untrue: “We aver that Obasanjo’s comments are untrue, misleading and clearly do not tally with the facts on the ground.

“We therefore wish to assert without equivocation that in terms of performance and achievements, no administration since 1960 when Nigeria gained independence from Britain, has done as much as that of President Jonathan”.

The statement described Jonathan as the best leader Nigeria ever produced as the  Federal Government under Jonathan had performed excellently given the prevailing circumstances and resources available to it.

Okupe explained that  every discerning and unbiased Nigerian would definitely attest the claim “as the evidence stare all of us in the face.”

The statement claimed that President Jonathan remains Nigeria’s best leader since Independence from Britain in 1960, and that the issue of terrorism, which could have thrown Nigeria into a worse nightmare had been curtailed by efforts of Jonathan even under limited resources, describing him the best leader Nigeria ever produced in handling national matters.

Okupe continued that while it was true that Nigeria had been faced with incidents of insurgency and terrorism, especially in the last few years, the Jonathan administration had successfully contained the initial widespread activities of the insurgents, which he said were prevalent in 12 states of the North, including the Federal Capital Territory.

NigeriaHe added, “While it is true that the present activities of the terrorists in the three north-eastern states have become more deadly in mindless killings, kidnappings and supposed territorial seizures, government has made giant diplomatic strides with our neighbouring countries in order to checkmate the criss-crossing of the insurgents.

“The military and other security agents, which have engaged the insurgents since inception, have done a great job in spite of recent challenges.

“The truth of the matter which we must know and accept is that we have an internal enemy supported by internal and external resources waging a major warfare against our nation”.

The statement asserted that Jonathan remains the nation’s ‘Messiah’ .

Okupe at one time was a close ally to Obasanjo’s government in a working capacity and has been a source of image rebuilding by many past leaders, engaging him for image juggling. Many described his political sojourn as opportunistic.

He said that  therefore, a recent comment made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, accusing him of low performance was an under-assessment was untrue and that  accusation of  below average performance was unfounded.
