Tourism: Nigeria is a safe nation and no one should use Terrorism to scare travellers


The Director-General of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation,Otunba Olusegun Runsewe has stated that the present security challenges in Nigeria must not discourage potential tourists and business investors from visiting the country since there is no country in the whole world with total security.

Otunba Runsewe made this declaration while chatting with some Nigerian journalists that attended the opening ceremony of the World Travel Market 2012 at the Excel Centre,Docklands in London.

He also stated that WTM2012 is a unique one because NTDC is  fully on ground  to showcase the strength of Nigeria as the giant of Africa in the global tourism and business opportunities.

“There is no country in the whole world with total security.We all have our challenges.Our government is trying all efforts to make Nigeria the tourist destination for people from every corner of the globe.
Nigeria is a land of abundant opportunities despite our security challenges.”Otunba Runsewe further affirmed that,’all major global airlines are landing in Nigerian airports,most of the well-known hotels in the world have branches in Nigeria with  world-class services and they also Nigeria is an English-speaking country.We have what it takes to attract tourists and business investors.”
“As you can see in the recent times, more Americans and other nationalities are visiting Nigeria for tourism and business opportunities.We have a long history as a country;our crafts,festivals,wonderful waterfalls and several tourist attractions to stimulate them to visit Nigeria.
The minister of tourism in Gambia has just left me before you all arrived to interview me.We are making a strongest statement this year WTM2012 that Nigeria is a land of investment opportunities and a unique tourist destination in Africa.’Otunba Runsewe said.
When asked about the well-decorated and beautifully designed Nigeria’s stand at the WTM2012.Otunba Runsewe stated that,” Nigeria is still the giant of Africa despite all the challenges and things must be done properly.Nigeria cannot be showcasing business opportunities and tourism potentials for people to see in a small place.We must be able to promote our country in a decent,well-decorated and superb environment.”
Otunba Runsewe in his closing remarks also encourage Nigerians in every corner of the world to positively promote their country and be law-abiding citizens in order to project a good image of their country.
World Travel Market is an annual  and global event in London, attracting virtually all countries in this world,it is an avenue to promote travels/tourism and investment opportunities for respective countries.The event which started today,5th November shall end on Thursday 8th November 2012 with a colorful  closing ceremony.
