Ekiti-mapPolitical Crisis May Tear  Ekiti Aprt As Fayose Adopts Jungle Governance-A major power-tussle has brewed in Ekiti State with seven members of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in  House of Assembly  on Monday morning removed the House Speaker, and installing a PDP member as a replacement.

The State government confirmed the impeachment but claimed the action was only a day affair , claiming that what  happened was a temporary measure of mandating nine lawmakers out of 26 to sit and  and elect a Speaker Plenipotentiary to preside over the business of the day.

That business as referred to was the  approval of commissioner nominees, special advisers and local government caretaker committees for the local government areas in the state.

There are 26 members in the House and 19, including the substantive speaker was edged off their seats from the Assembly complex on Monday as nine members were ushered into the main Hall of the Assembly by armed  Policemen acting on the Governor’s order as a furore between the House Speaker and Governor Ayodele Fayoshe developed to an open confrontation and power grabbing in a power muscle-flexing stance.

The jungle law application has been defended as being lawful Ekiti State government has reacted claiming the Speaker,  Rt. Hon. Adewale Omirin was not removed as reported.

In a brief statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Idown Adelusi, it was claimed that  all that happened was that nine lawmakers were mandated to sit and elect a Speaker Plenipotentiary to preside over the business of the day.

According to the statement, the referred business of the day  was the approval of commissioner nominees, special advisers and local government caretaker committees for the local government areas in the state.

The statement read in part: “Nine members of the House sat today to approve the commissioner nominees, Special Advisers and the Local Government Caretaker Committees for the 16 local government councils.

“There are 26 members in the House and the House standing order allows a quorum of 9 members to sit and appoint speaker plenipotentiary to preside.

“So, what transpired in the House is within the law.

Adewale-OmirinThe statement however accused All Progressive Congress political party (APC)of hypocrisy drawing a parity  with staes controlled by the party: “APC are only being hypocritical. We know what is happening in APC-controlled state of Edo.

“For over a year now, the state governor has prevented the lawmakers from sitting.

“He said he was going to renovate the Assembly Complex and PDP lawmakers have been meeting in the dilapidated complex, while APC lawmakers are meeting at the Government House. Also another APC state of Rivers, the judiciary has been shut down for over a year too”, the statement said.

Within the short period of government take over, the State speaker, Omirin and Governor Ayodele Fayose have been at loggerheads as the  governor accused the speaker and other All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the House of frustrating his government by rejecting the list of Commissioners sent to the Assembly approval.

Hon. Omirin however described the governor’s accusation and action as blackmail.

However, following the jungle passage of the name of the new cabinet members of Gov. Ayodele Fayose the governor is  billed to  swear-in all Caretaker Committees in the 18 local government areas of the state today without the approval of the House as required by the law.

Ayo-FayoseAnother battle line has been drawn as the seven PDP legislators have also installed one of their own, one  Dele Olugbemi as the acting Speaker, as speculation is now rife for an era of open confrontation between the law makers in the state..

The PDP has seven members in the house while the APC has 18, excluding the speaker.
