Tragedy: Kaduna Governor, Yakowa, Ex-Security Aide, Azazi feared dead in Helicopter Crash In Bayelsa State

Kaduna State governor,  Patrick Yakowa and former National Security Adviser to the government,   Andrew  Owoye Azazi are feared dead in a major helicopter mishap which happened this afternoon in Bayelsa State.

Governor Yakowa and Mr. Azazi( a retired military general who served as chief security adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan) were among passengers in the ill-fated helicopter which crashed in Bayelsa State Saturday afternoon.  All the passengers in the military copter were feared dead.

It was signaled earlier on Saturday  by Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA)  that the agency had activated a search for a crashed helicopter in the Eastern part of Nigeria.

The crashed chopper was said to be carrying some other Nigeria  major political stakeholders under the present regime.

Governor Yakowa and Mr. Azazi were among many political figures who reportedly attended the burial of the father of senior presidential aide Oronto Douglas.

The burial of Obereba Douglas was scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Okoroba, in Nembe area of  Bayelsa State, with the real burial taking place on Saturday.

The helicopter belonged to the Nigerian navy and had been taking officials to Port Harcourt in preparation for Pa Douglas’  burial.

National Emergency Management Agency is yet to come with details about the crash, though earlier indication was that a crash occurred.

The crash comes on the heels of a plane crash on October 25, 2012 that has left Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State brain-damaged. Mr. Suntai was moved to a hospital in Germany where he remains in poor shape, unable to recognize his visitors or to speak.
