Rivers State Governor Wike Sacked By Election Tribunal-The Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal has sacked
Nyesom Wike, PDP elected Governor of Rivers State.
The action follows a three-man elections petitions tribunal decision in Rivers state nullifying the election of the Governor and ordering that a fresh elections be held within 90 days. The team led by Justice Ambusa said the election conducted on April 11 2015 which brought Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to power was substantially flawed as it was marred by violence.
The action pinnacles the political chess-game which has been on play prior to last election between the ruling party APC and the State aligned PDP and the follow-up election aftermath violence.
Now, it has been ordered that a fresh election be held within 90 days.
The tribunal, which delivered its ruling in Abuja early on Saturday, has ordered for a new governorship election be conducted in the state while the governor remains as being out of power; his election having been nullified.
The petition challenging the election of Mr. Wike as Rivers State Governor was filed by Dakuku Peterside, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the election.
The Rivers governorship election was a subject of criticism following Wike’s victory in the last election as local and international observers picked holes as tension rose between the tow main parties, PDP and APC.
The election also witnessed the largest amount of overreactions and eventual violence prior and in the aftermath of the elections.
